A Day in the Life of a Homeopath

A Day in the Life of a Homeopath

What is it like to be a homeopath? It’s wonderful meeting and working with so many different people. I never know what each day in practice will bring. And that is one of the many delights of being a homeopath. What does a typical Day in the Life of a Homeopath look like?

Life as a Homeopath – Chantry Health Wales

When I was growing up, we as a family we had not heard of or used homeopathy. I had no idea that being a homeopath would be my career and my calling. It was only later in my 30’s, when homeopathy had a huge impact on my health that I decided to look into training to become a homeopath. And, over 22 years later, I still find it endlessly fascinating and inspiring.

What does homeopathy offer?

Why is homeopathy such a positive approach to health for both the patient and practitioner. I always find it amusing when people refer to older systems of medicine as “new age”. Pharmaceuticals are actually the new kids on the block by comparison. And, I believe, they all have their plusses. Use the best approach for you, for the right things, at the right time.

Homeopathy offers elements of healthcare that remind me of how things used to be within the medical system, how most family doctors used to work.

Homeopathy offers Continuity – sadly lacking in so many areas of life now, especially healthcare. A homeopath can work with their patients over years, being there when needed. There is something very lovely about watching children grow up and become the people they are to be. To see families navigate the challenges and celebrations of life. It is a privilege to walk part of their path alongside them.

Time Well Spent – how often do we have time to focus on our health and well-being? Really focus. To work out what we need, and work through the obstacles and challenges. This is part of the gift of homeopathy. As well as being supportive for patients, the time invested is helpful for the homeopath as it empowers us to better help you. We work with a high level of detail. Getting to know you and then being able to select the constitutional approach to support you best.

We Respect and Value the Individual – our choices, and what makes us all different. We value that person’s experience and thoughts around their health and situation. Not only does it play a huge part in helping us to select one of the many individually tailored remedies for them, but it is also a core part of a homeopath’s approach to being in practice.

Does homeopathy work?

homeopathy I’ll admit to being just a little bit biased here…Yes, it does! No one system of medicine can offer everything to everyone, but one of the great joys of being a homeopath is seeing homeopathy make a difference in people’s lives. After 22 years I wouldn’t be here doing this if that wasn’t the case.

There is a lot of positive evidence that homeopathy works and has so much to offer the individual, the state of the nation’s health and its NHS.

Occasionally I come across people who are sceptical and that’s fine. I’m pretty sceptical, that’s what lead me to homeopathy in the first place! It’s good to keep an open mind, especially if what people are currently doing isn’t actually supporting their health.

A Day in the Life of a Homeopath – Online and in Wales

A Day in the Life of a Homeopath OnlineSo, what does A Day in the Life of a Homeopath look like? I usually check my messages and emails first thing. These days there are so many platforms to check. As well as the usual phone and emails, I’m also on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn so I share information on Chantry Health’s social media. This can be practical health topics, blogs I’ve written, as well as things to make you smile – laughter is, after all, the best medicine!

Then I will go through any casework needing my attention. This may be to work out an overall treatment plan – homeopathic remedies, herbs, supplements, diet and lifestyle measures as appropriate. And not forgetting admin, where does all the admin come from!

A Day in the Life of a HomeopathThen the bit practitioners enjoy the most – appointments with patients, either online or in person locally, here in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion, in Wales. These can be at different times of day to slot in with patients home and work commitments.

When I have time, and the inspiration, I write blogs and enjoy sharing information about different elements of my practice. You can read more about my journey into homeopathy and founding Chantry Health, as well as seeing how much has changed since I wrote my blog A Day in the Life of a Natural Health Practitioner back in February 2020!

What do people ask for homeopathic help with?

Life of a Homeopath imageThere are so many reasons why people come to homeopathy. We offer constitutional support, which means we treat the whole person so that the system can restore balance. You are much more than a wonky knee, itchy rash or a hormonal hiccup. We aim to select remedies that suit you as individual taking into account these kinds of issues.

Each homeopath will tend to have a practice that reflects them and their areas of interest. Having said that, certain conditions like high blood pressure, eczema or insomnia are so common that I and many of my colleagues will see a lot of people with them.

homeopath at workI’ve chosen to specialise in menopause because there is so much a homeopathic approach has to offer women at this life stage. That means that I tend to see a lot of women who are struggling with hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, etc. And I really enjoy offering support and information because there is so much they can do to feel better!

Emotional well-being can often be a core element of what people want help with. Stress and anxiety are incredibly common. For many they might find the medication hard to tolerate or that it does not help enough. For other, they might want to try a more natural approach first. One of the many great things about homeopathy is that you can take it alongside pharmaceutical mediations as they don’t interact. If you are contemplating stopping any drugs from your doctor do speak with them first so that you can find the best way to stop.

I work with patients in partnership. Sharing information and resources. Discussing the remedies and treatment options to create a plan that you are happy with. I continue to learn and evolve in my practice. It’s one of the things I love about this work and way of life. It is not the same year 22 years over, or the same day after day. I never know what each day in practice will bring. And that is one of the many delights of being a homeopath.
